COVID-19: NEW URGENT MEASURES REGARDING CONSULAR SERVICES

The Consulate General of Italy in Montreal must continue to observe prudent measures relating to the COVID-19 health emergency, to protect the staff on duty and the public who access our offices.

In this context, it remains necessary to prevent gatherings and to ensure distance between people within the Consulate General.

Users can therefore only be received by appointment, giving priority to cases of proven urgency.

Appointments for the following Services can be made through the booking system: Prenot@mi on our website:

  • Passports;
  • Citizenship by descent;
  • Notarial services with regard to powers of attorney, signature authentications, declarations of conformity of copies of documents.

All requests for visas, legalization and the issue of passports for children under 12 must be sent by post in the manner listed below.

VISAS

All applications for an entry visa by foreign citizens who need to travel to Italy must be submitted by post. The Visa Office of this Consulate General will contact those who have to deposit fingerprints for the purpose of issuing the Schengen Visa for an appointment.

LEGALIZATIONS

Requests for the legalization of signatures of notaries on powers of attorney, signatures of lawyers on powers of attorney, signatures of official translators must include:

  • Original of the document to be legalized,
  • Copy of the applicant’s passport,
  • “Express Post” prepaid envelope,
  • Money order (bank or postal) for the payment of consular fees (art. 69 of the Table of Consular Fees) for each document to be legalized.

Requests for legalization of Civil Status Records should include:

  • Original of the Deed;
  • Duly completed transcription request;
  • Copy of the applicant’s passport (in the case of a minor, copy of the parents’ passport);
  • Money order (bank or postal) for the payment of consular fees (art. 7 of the Table of Consular Fees) for each document to be legalized.

ISSUANCE OF PASSPORTS

People over 12 years of age must continue to appear in person at the Consulate General by appointment (Prenot@mi) for the acquisition of fingerprints and to collect the passport.

Children under the age of 12 will be exempted from showing up and must send by mail:

  • Original of the passport request form, duly completed and signed by both parents;
  • Copy of valid identity documents of parents complete with photo, showing personal data, handwritten signature and issuing authority;
  • Copy of the passport of the minor, if it exists, showing personal data and the issuing authority;
  • Two recent identical photographs (max 1 year), European passport size (40-45 mm high by 32-35 mm wide, on white background, front facing with neutral expression),
  • “Express Post” prepaid envelope,
  • Money order (bank or postal) for the payment (please see Section 3 of the Table of Consular Fees for the exact amount).

Regarding signing for consent:

  • If the parents are Italian or EU citizens they will be able to sign for consent on the application form. They must send a copy of their passports showing their personal data, their signature and the issuing authority;
  • If one of the two parents is not a EU citizen, he/she must sign in person. To this end and provided with a proof of identity, he/she must present himself/herself:

– at this Consulate General if he/she resides in our Circumscription;
– At a Municipal Office (Comune) or a police precinct (Questura) by place of residence if he/she lives in Italy;
– At our Diplomatic or Consular presentation by territory if he/she lives in another country.
