To communicate a marriage / civil union it is necessary to send the following documentation to the Consulate General by mail:
- Original of the act of marriage / civil union, duly apostilled by Canadian Authorities (please see the list below for the exact document required). For documents issued in Quebec, please refer to the website of the Ministry of Justice of Quebec. For information regarding apostilles on documents issued by the provinces of New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Nuvavut, please refer to Global Affairs Canada.
- Application for registration of the marriage/ civil union certificate duly completed
- Copy of both passports

- Nova Scotia: Marriage Certificate Long Form, Vital Statistics
- New Brunswick: Marriage Certificate Long Form, Service New Brunswick
- Newfoundland and Labrador: Marriage Certificate, Service Newfoundland Labrador
- Prince Edward Island: Marriage Certificate Long Form, Vital Statistics
- Autonomous Territory of Nunavut: Marriage Certificate Long Form, Vital Statistics
For civil status documents produced by other Canadian provinces or other countries, it is necessary to contact the competent consular offices for the territory.
