“Festa della Repubblica” in Montreal: 10,000 guests expected for an event of celebration, shows and debates, which will end with a great concert conducted by Claudio Baglioni.
The Consulate General of Italy in Montreal is pleased to invite the Italian community of the metropolitan area of Montreal and friends from Quebec and Canada to the”Festa della Repubblica”, which will be celebrated on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at 5 PM, at the arena Place Bell in Laval (gates open at 4 o’clock).
The festival, in accordance with the Italian spirit and the principles of the Constitution, will be opened, participated and inclusive, and will aim to reach 10,000 guests, in order that all the Italian community and all our Canadian friends can be part of an event that celebrates Italy, but also a friendship with Montreal, Quebec and Canada.
An event that aims to combine the mass dimension with the features of refinement, taste, style, excellence, typical of “Vivereallitaliana”.
The public, made up of guests from the Consulate General and fellow countrymen mobilized by the Comites and the Italian associations of Montreal, will be welcomed in the magnificent scenario of the new music concert arena of Place Bell, in an even more Italian atmosphere created by iconic ‘made in Italy’ brands such as Lamborghini, Vespa, Ferrero, Pirelli, Mapei, Cormons and Kartell. And of course, as at every Italian festival, Italian food and wine will be offered to everyone, thanks to the collaboration of companies such as Beretta, Granarolo, Rio Mare, Amaro Lucano, Domodimonti, Granoro, San Benedetto, Igor Gorgonzola, Formaggi Zanetti, Consorzio Piave, Caffitaly, San Carlo, Cantina Miglianico.
Star of the festival will be the great Italian music, thanks to ‘A tempo di musica’, an extraordinary and unrepeatable live show of one of the most beloved artists of all time: Claudio Baglioni, who – for his first time at the “Festa della Repubblica abroad – has chosen to perform in Montreal.
50 years of timeless successes, 60 million records sold all over the world – he is the author of the “Song of the Century”: “Questa piccolo grande amore”, the most sold song in the history of Italian discography. From the end of the Sixties to today, Baglioni has managed to conquer one generation after another, thanks to the charm of immortal melodies and a refined pop, in which he knew how to combine, more than any other, art song, rock, international sounds, world music and jazz. Attending at a Baglioni concert means living the unique and unforgettable experience of seeing on stage an artist who has revolutionized the very concept of live performance. He was, in fact, the first to inaugurate the season of great events in the stadiums and he was the first, in 1996, to “make the stage disappear” and bring the scene to the center of the most important and prestigious arenas in Italy. Therefore, great melodies but also intense and exciting texts, which will allow you to live the beauty of the Italian language and make even more alive and close relations between the Italian community in Canada and Italy.
The event will also include a series of testimonies from Italians who have excelled in different sectors in Montreal: Luisa Miniaci, coordinator of the Quebec section of the Foundation for renal polycystic disease, an example of dedication and solidarity; Prof. Andrea Lodi, holder of the Canadian chair of research excellence in big data applied to decision-making processes at the Polytechnic of Montreal, the most important research project in this field in Canada; Sebastian Sylwan, creative partner of Felix and Paul Studios, a leader in the field of virtual film reality. These three personalities want to prove the continuous vocation of Italy to generate talent, both in its homeland and in our communities abroad; These are talents that emerge in all sectors, and especially in those most oriented towards creativity and innovation.
The festival will also be an opportunity for an exchange of ideas and points of view on the future of the Italian community in Canada among the Italian parliamentarians elected abroad in the North American division (expect the Honourable Fuchsia Nissoli Fitzgerald and Francesca La Marca and Senator Francesca Alderisi), the President of the Committee of Italians Abroad of Montreal, Giovanna Giordano, the President of the Italian-Canadian Congress of Quebec, Antonio Sciascia, the President of the historic “House of Italy” of Montreal, Gino Berretta.
The event on stage will be presented by the charming and talented Italian-Canadian actress Cristina Rosato, reminding us that Italy is also cinema, elegance and beauty, in tandem with the presenter Joe Cacchione, once again protagonist of the event. Music will be sang by the soprano Giorgia Fumanti, the singer-songwriter Gianni Bodo, the Juke Box group and the female duo Dolceamare.
The national anthems will open the protocol part, with speeches by the Italian Ambassador in Ottawa, Claudio Taffuri, the Italian Consul General in Montreal, Marco Riccardo Rusconi, the Prime Minister of Quebec, Philippe Couillard, whose exceptional participation in the Festival confirms the very close and friendly relations between Italy and Quebec.
“La Festa Nazionale” is promoted and organized by the Consulate General of Italy, with the collaboration of the Italian Cultural Institute in Montreal, the Institute for Foreign Trade in Canada, the Committee for Italians Abroad of Montreal, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada, the National Congress of Italian Canadians. Admission is free and open to all until all, subject to availability of tickets .
