The Consulate General of Italy in Montreal is pleased to invite Italian citizens, Italian-Canadians and friends both from Quebec and the rest of Canada to the celebrations of the Italian National Day, on the 4th of June 2017, at 6 pm at the Saputo Stadium in Montreal (gates will be opened at 5:30 pm).
In the year of the 375th anniversary of the founding of Montreal, the major celebration for Italians will be a great event, open also to Montrealers, Quebeckers and Canadians. If Montreal has developed into the world-class, prosperous and welcoming city that we know, it is due to the undeniable contribution of those Italians who, over the years, have donated their intelligence, creativity, business sense and hard work.
In this sense, our National Day is also a celebration of Montreal.
And it is of course, first of all, a celebration of Italy: we have therefore decided to invite a “piece” of the peninsula to represent the entirety of our country.
An Italian city will in fact be our guest of honour: Bologna.
Bologna presents many affinities with Montreal. Both cities are famous for their universities (Bologna’s “Alma Mater” being the oldest in the world). Both cities share an important industrial vocation and provide a fertile environment for start-up businesses and creative initiatives. Bologna and Montreal share a passion for engines, racings, cars and motorcycles; both are characterized by the appreciation of good living and are recognized as gastronomic capitals.
Moreover, Bologna and Montreal are welcoming cities, that believe in “living together” and “living well together”. Both mayors, Virginio Merola and Denis Coderre will be guests at the celebration.
Festivities will include a rich programme which highlights the values and fundamental elements of Italian culture and identity, that constitute a world heritage.
The celebrations will conclude with the extraordinary participation of a special guest, Antonello Venditti, a major star of the Italian music scene, who has kindly accepted our invitation to perform for all Montrealers on the occasion of “La Festa della Repubblica”.
There will obviously be a food tasting of Italian products.
Access to the Saputo Stadium, a Montreal symbolic icon of soccer, the sport which more than any other unites all Italians, is free but must be accompanied by tickets that are distributed exclusively through all Italian cultural associations.
A maximum of two (2) tickets will be given, per individual, by calling 514 955-8545 (Com.It.Es.) or 514 849-4012 (Istituto Italiano di Cultura) or via email at montreal.festanazionale@esteri.it, until quantities last.
The Italian National Day is promoted and organized by the Consulate General of Italy with the collaboration of the Italian Institute of Culture, the Committee for Italians Abroad, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada and the National Congress of Italian-Canadians.
Sincere thanks for their generous support go to: Delmar, Bracco, JP Metal, Mapei, Pirelli, Lamborghini and Amaro Lucano, and Impact Montreal for hosting the event within the Stadium.
